Keeping in mind the goals and philosophy of Just2It!, I do not intend to teach you everything there is to know about Picasa Web Albums. In this lesson we'll explore the various capabilities of Picasa Web Albums and have you create, store, tag and retrieve photos in your own account. I have selected Picasa Web Albums because it is part of the google suite of software solutions. If that is the case for you, please do not feel compelled to complete the assignments in this lesson in Picasa Web Albums.

Several class participants indicated that they were already using one of a multiple of web-based photosharing sites.

When we conducted the pre-course survey of technology usage, the one area with the most 'use' was photosharing. For the purposes of this lesson we're going to concentrate on exploring the capabilities of photosharing online. For example, there is a desktop application that runs just on your computer and enables you to store, edit, organize and manage your photos and then easily upload those images to the web. To complicate things just a bit more there are photosharing tols that work in both spaces or potentially work in both spaces if we wish. For example, there are tools that work on our computers, such as iPhoto on the Macintosh and there are photo tools that work on the web such as Flickr, Photobucket, Snapfish and Picasa. Like many of the Web 2.0 tools we've covered so far in Just2It!, photosharing on the web can be as simple or complicated as we wish to make it. The services available for sharing photos continues to increase however the more common names in this genre of Web 2.0 image sharing sites includes some you may be familiar with such as: At last count there were like 6 gagillion photos posted and available via the internet (the term gagillion is a term I just made up and it means a whole bunch!).

The Internet has become the primary mechanism for posting and sharing photos for personal, work, and educational purposes. Over the past 5 years, the ability to capture, edit, and upload for sharing digital photographs, video, and animations has dramatically increased.
